Salave is one of the largest unexplored gold deposit in Europe, from the superficial extraction of the metal developed by the Romans 2,000 years ago and is now known as Lagunas de Salave.

It has been intensively researched by several specialized companies and analyzed in numerous theses and academic studies.

As it has been indicated after the initial open-air extraction of the Romans, small extractive work of the middle of the last century was undertaken, mainly aimed at obtaining molybdenum in small local veins in a rather superficial manner.

The gold deposit of Salave is located in the vicinity of the hamlet of the same name, belonging to the municipality of Tapia de Casariego.

Although the mineralization includes other elements in different concentrations, it is the gold that due to its quantitative presence, that has gained significant interest from a technical and economic point of view.
